Snacking for Shift Workers and Odd Schedules
When your 'lunch' is at 3am, your snacks have to work harder.

Standard nutrition advice assumes a 9-to-5 with three tidy meals. If you work nights, doubles, or a rotating schedule, you need a more flexible playbook.
Anchor with protein
Irregular hours make blood sugar — and energy — harder to keep steady. Protein-forward snacks help level things out and keep you fuller through long stretches, which beats grazing on whatever's in the break room.
Avoid the sugar trap
Vending machines and gas stations are built on sugar and refined carbs — a quick lift followed by a crash you can't afford at hour ten. Choosing low-added-sugar, high-protein options keeps your energy from yo-yoing.
Keep shelf-stable options on hand
The trick is having good choices within reach so the machine isn't your only option. Stash things that don't need a fridge: Flex Jerky (10g protein, resealable), Nacho Chips, and Gummies all live happily in a locker or bag.
Mind the caffeine timing
Caffeine late in your "day" can wreck the sleep you're already fighting for. A caffeine-free option for the back half of a shift is a smart swap.
Odd hours are hard enough — let your snacks do some of the work.
